This is a digital gallery of artwork created by PiP (Pursuing Independent Paths) participants during the Community Group in Residence project at Hammersmith Hospital.
The group took part in workshops led by our Arts team, inspired by artwork on display across our hospitals. We were also lucky to have artists Hisba Brimah, Orlando Richardson and Jon Rees facilitating creative workshops during the project.
All photographs are taken by Jon Rees: https://www.iamjonrees.com/
More of the group's brilliant artwork is on permanent display at Hammersmith Hospital. Email arts@imperialcharity.org.uk to find out more.
Artwork inspired by the collection
Throughout the project, PiP participants created work inspired by our hospital art collection, with a visit to Hammersmith Hospital to look at the art on display and to help familiarise participants with the hospital environment. This included creating statues to welcome people to the hospital, and creating stained glass windows depicting favourite views. Participants also took part in photography workshops facilitated by Jon, where we experimented with different cameras and created our own self-portraits using cyanotype.
Hisba Brimah's workshops
Hisba facilitated two brilliant workshops with us, alongside Artbox Studio Facilitator Katie Parsons. Participants created self-portraits in paper inspired by her Human Collage artwork, and learned how to do screenprinting.
Orlando Richardson’s workshops
Orlando also facilitated two fantastic workshops, where participants drew symbols representing identity on canvas and created multi-layered gelli-prints.
