Imperial Health Charity is pleased to present A New Day, a bespoke commission by artist Laura Gee.

The Lighthouse is a new mental health assessment centre at St Mary's Hospital, providing patients who require emergency care for their mental health a more immediate therapeutic environment to be seen by professionals.

Working together with staff in the unit, Imperial Health Charity selected an artist for this
commission who could think about the particular needs of this space, and produce a
harmonious, sensitive collection of artworks to enhance the environment.

Laura wanted to create a sense of calm and comfort through her paintings of landscapes
and moments of peace in nature. These paintings aim to inspire and engage, tapping into
the positive benefits of spending time with nature. The artworks are based on Laura’s
sketchbook drawings of the British coast and also imaginary elements, playing with light and
soft colours to create new landscapes that are universal and accessible to all.

The commission, titled A New Day, brings together original paintings, framed prints and vinyls placed on the walls in patient rooms and elsewhere throughout the space. We hope that through Laura’s creativity in the Lighthouse this space feels welcoming and safe but also
provides moments of interest and invigoration.
