Kshem Yapa, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon

“Major trauma is a very exciting and fast-paced specialty to be in. You step into people’s lives when they are at their most vulnerable and you get to put the skills that you’ve learned into use to have a positive impact.”
Kshem joined the Trust as a consultant at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the show, he's seen treating 33-year-old Zoltan who was brought to St Mary's Hospital with severe crush injuries after being hit by a van and, despite rapid care from staff, has to undergo an amputation.
Kshem was tasked with breaking the news to Zoltan and carrying out the procedure, as well as being around to witness his incredible recovery.

Chris is a Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at St Mary’s Hospital with a special interest in pelvic reconstruction. Working alongside Kshem, his specialist knowledge and skillset is crucial to Zoltan’s case, whose pelvis is broken after being hit by a van.
The Trauma System didn’t exist when Chris was a Junior Doctor, and he has witnessed the incredible improvement in patient outcomes since the network came into being.
