Will you give a child the gift of play this winter?
Every child has the right to play – but when faced with life-threatening illness, freedom and fun can quickly turn to fear and anxiety.
Sadly, many seriously ill children will spend the winter months in hospital this year. But at times of great distress and uncertainty, the power of play can make the world of difference for children and their families.
More than merely a distraction, play is an essential building block in a child’s hospital care and helps to boost their recovery - making sure they're ready to return home as soon as possible.
This winter, we need your help to create a truly exceptional play space for seriously ill children in hospital.
With your support, we will transform the existing playroom at St Mary’s Hospital, creating a vibrant and engaging space for play and other vitally important forms of therapy.
Children of all ages – from tiny tots to teenagers – will have the freedom to explore a wide range of age-appropriate games and sensory resources in a truly multi-functional space specially designed to encourage curiosity, movement and interaction.
With a major refurbishment already in the pipeline, your donation will help to prepare the new and improved playroom by enabling us to purchase much-needed play and therapy equipment that will bring the space to life.
Once complete, the new play space will be used by specialist staff to deliver tailored arts, music and physical therapy activities – crucial support that can significantly enhance a child’s recovery.
These extra resources - from simple toys and video games to sophisticated sensory experiences - will help us create an absorbing environment for play where children can explore and interact.
The expanded space will also include facilities for children to have a private place to work through their feelings and receive critical emotional and mental health support.
Your support will make a real difference ...
