Family's fundraising efforts help us fund new equipment at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital
An extraordinary fundraising family have raised tens of thousands of pounds to help us provide extra support for the incredible hospital team who saved their daughter’s life.

Ian Cox ran the Battersea Park Half Marathon along with his friends and family in September 2022, raising over £28,400 to help us support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital.

Ian and his wife Justine were inspired to give back to the hospital after their daughter Daisy was born prematurely in 2021, weighing only 850 grams.

Now, Ian’s daughter Matilda is planning to run the London Marathon and Royal Parks Half Marathon next year to continue the family’s support for the amazing hospital team.

The funds they’ve raised have enabled us to buy a video laryngoscope – a special camera used to place a tube into a baby’s breathing pipe – to support babies who are struggling to breathe when they’re born.

We’ve also purchased reclining chairs for the unit, which give mothers and their babies the chance to bond through skin-to-skin contact, improve feeding and reduce the likelihood of infections.

"Daisy's now doing incredibly well, and I want to say thank you again to the staff at Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea"

"My baby sister Daisy was born on 2 December 2021, 14 weeks earlier than she was due," Matilda said.

"Needless to say, she didn't have the easiest start to life and spent her first couple of months in the NICU at Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital.

"Fortunately, while she was there, Daisy received an amazing level of care from the incredible staff, who were such a great support to our family during that difficult period.

"Daisy's now doing incredibly well - a very happy, healthy and vocal almost two-year-old - and I want to say thank you again to the staff at Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea."
