Help new mums after baby loss
Help new mums after baby loss
16 May 2025

Our new Rainbow Clinic appeal for Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital is aiming to help expectant mums during what can be a challenging time, by offering dedicated support and a safe space within a clinical setting to families experiencing their rainbow pregnancy.
The clinic will provide individual, tailored care for expectant mums following a loss, ensuring they receive consistent support from a specialist team that truly understands the emotional impact of a rainbow pregnancy. Patients will be cared for by the same midwives and consultants throughout their pregnancy, in a quiet and comforting environment away from the hospital’s main space used for antenatal care, which may be triggering or have previously experienced trauma.

Aminta, who experienced the loss of her daughter Isabella at 20 weeks, was the first woman to use the new Rainbow Clinic when it opened. She gave birth to her son Jamie in April of this year.
Aminta says: “The clinic has been life-changing. The staff are so calm, so lovely. [When I experienced my loss] we were walked through everything that was going to happen…
During her next pregnancy, Aminta visited the clinic almost every week. “I just needed that supportive reassurance,” she adds.
Shannon, who lost her son in November 2023, and is now a mum to seven-month-old Eziah, shared how vital the continuity of care has been to her recovery.
Shannon says: “All the memories were coming back raw, and my anxiety was through the roof.
“With others, I had to explain over and over again. But with Sana (a Consultant Obstetrician), I didn’t have to.”
She also described how the Rainbow Clinic will create a more calming, compassionate atmosphere.
Shannon adds: “The rooms in other departments are plain and clinical - it creates more anxiety. But with this clinic, you know you’re going to be seen, and they know who you are.”
With your support, we can create this dedicated space for new mums expecting their rainbow baby. We will be able to provide a room away from the main maternity space as well as a specialist ultrasound scanner.
Please help us make families feel safe, understood and cared for throughout their rainbow pregnancy.
