Support our Hammersmith Hospital ICU Appeal and help us heal a broken heart

Every year, thousands of people from across north west London are admitted to the hospital’s ICU. Many of them are suffering from complex conditions that can cause their heart and lungs to suddenly fail, requiring emergency life-support to save their lives.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is one of the most advanced forms of emergency life-support and can help save the most critically ill patients on an ICU.

Dr Louit Thakuria, Critical Care Consultant at the hospital, said: “Bringing ECMO into Hammersmith will allow us to provide some of the most advanced organ support and intensive care for our patients, so that we can save more lives and return more people home to their families and loved ones”

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to purchase one ECMO device and begin training our NHS staff – but we still need to purchase two more in order to ensure that we can provide a consistent service, offering the same treatment to every patient who comes through our doors.
