Support our Winter Appeal and help children in need of emergency care

This winter, you can help us transform the busy children’s A&E at St Mary’s Hospital and enable hard-working NHS staff to provide even better care for young patients and their families.
Our dedicated children’s A&E is often the first port of call for families when a serious injury or illness occurs – and our incredible hospital staff will be there once again to look after thousands of young patients when they need it most.
But with your support this winter, we can help them do even more.
Your generous donation to our Winter Appeal will go towards interactive games and resources specially designed to reduce feelings of anxiety and distress for children in need of urgent care. Your gift could also help us make improvements to the waiting area, creating extra space for young patients and their families.
These important additions will have a big impact for children at a distressing time, putting their minds at ease and helping them reconnect with play and adventure.

Children like Alfie* would really benefit from your kind support this winter. He’s six years old and struggles with his breathing because of a respiratory condition. Alfie often feels frightened and distressed in unfamiliar surroundings and sometimes gets anxious around the medical equipment.
“We know that simple improvements, such as special lights on our ceiling tiles, would make things so much better for children like Alfie,” said Louise Sutherland, a Health Play Specialist at our children’s A&E.
“The colourful pictures and dimmed lighting would create a far more calming atmosphere and really help him to relax while he receives treatment.”

- transforming the children’s A&E waiting room into a more comfortable environment
- reducing feelings of anxiety and distress while children receive care
- improving the play resources available for children while they wait for treatment.
