Applications open for Research Fellowships programme
01 October 2019
The programme, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, offers a fantastic opportunity for staff to develop their academic careers while making a personal contribution to improving patient care.
Funding is available for staff to take time out of their job or training programme to complete a research project. The one-year fellowship serves as a springboard to help staff gain the skills required for further study.
Over the last decade, our fellows have made a valuable contribution to improving patient care while developing their research skills in preparation for an academic career.
Since the programme began in 2009, we've awarded more than 80 fellowships totalling over £3 million - with support from our funding partner the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre.
Last year £488,000 was awarded to 12 fellows across a range of fields, including projects that explored long-term eye problems and quality-of-life assessments for patients with brain tumours.
Adine Adonis’s fellowship in 2016 enabled her to conduct research into spinal card inflammation. She said: “The fellowship gave me the opportunity to explore how research helps make a difference to clinical practice and the experience has opened up new research opportunities for me.”
Whether you are a medic or a healthcare professional outside of medicine, applications are open to any staff member who plans to undertake a research project for the benefit of the Trust’s patients and surrounding communities.
Applications close at 12pm on 17 January 2020. Successful applicants will be notified in April 2020.
