Winter Appeal

Help us create a hopeful and comfortable space for people with cancer at Charing Cross Hospital this winter.

Every year, the chemotherapy day unit supports thousands of people from communities across north west London as they face one of the hardest journeys of their lives.

Cancer does not discriminate. Nearly 1 in 2 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ in their lifetime, with many going on to receive chemotherapy treatment. Sessions can take several hours, depending on the treatment plan, which can feel endless, exhausting, and lonely.

For many patients, the chemotherapy day unit is where they receive care and comfort from our cancer team. However, we know that there is still much more we can do to make the space as comfortable as possible for patients.

Can you bring comfort to patients having chemotherapy this winter?

With your kindness, we can make this winter a little brighter for patients spending long hours in treatment. Together, we can go beyond what the NHS can provide and transform the unit into a place of warmth, dignity, and comfort.

Steve’s story

Your kindness could help create a brighter, more welcoming space for people like Steve.

Steve has been attending the chemotherapy day unit at Charing Cross Hospital for over three years, following his diagnosis of bladder cancer. Unfortunately, his cancer has since spread to his lymph nodes and – while it cannot be cured – the treatment he receives at the chemotherapy day unit gives him hope for many more meaningful years with his loved ones.

Every few weeks, Steve spends long days in the unit receiving treatment. Over time, it has become a central part of his life – a place where he has built strong bonds with the nurses who care for him and with other patients on a similar journey to his.

But it's not easy. Hours in the treatment chair can feel long and lonely.

“It can be tough. Having different coloured walls, artwork, or even a TV would make such a difference. Just something to help take your mind off it all.”

Steve, chemotherapy day unit patient

With your help, we can make that difference.

Your generosity could help transform the chemotherapy day unit into a brighter, more comfortable space. Your support will ensure that patients like Steve – whether their treatment is short or ongoing – feel cared for and welcomed.

If you're able to, please give generously this winter to support patients like Steve.
