Contemporary Printmaking

Imperial Health Charity is pleased to present a new exhibition of limited-edition prints drawn from Jealous, a fine art print studio and gallery in East London that works with of some of the most exciting printmakers in the UK today.

Printmaking is a hugely varied practice. The action of creating an image by pressing paint or ink into paper can create a myriad of styles and effects. The selection of work in this show demonstrates just a small number of techniques, including screen printing, giclee and lithography, but even with this limited selection the outcomes can be wonderfully diverse.

For example, the delicate, painterly details and tonal shifts captured in the work of Angie Lewin’s Nest are so opposed to the powerful colours and bold shapes in Erica Donovan’s If You Like this, You Might Like This… yet these works are both created by using the same screenprinting process. Other works employ exciting finishes or materials for kaleidoscopic effects: Joe Webb’s holographic Interstellar is a lenticular - meaning the image has been coated with a special plastic that gives an illusion of depth - while his Heaven & Earth is finished with a glitter overlay imitating a twinkling night sky.

With thanks to Jealous for their kind support of this exhibition.
