Dr Andreas Raffel has been appointed as the new Chair of Imperial Health Charity, the independent charity providing additional support to the patients, local communities and staff of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and its five hospitals in central and west London. He will take over from David Crundwell who is stepping down after eight years in the role.Dr Raffel brings with him extensive leadership and governance experience. Over the past 15 years, he has served in a range of board and trustee roles in education, health and the wider not-for-profit sector, including ten years as a non-executive director of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. In his executive career of over 30 years, Dr Raffel has held major global positions at Rothschild & Co – where he continues now as senior adviser - and Morgan Stanley.
Dr Raffel said: “I am truly excited to take on the role of Chair, working closely with the Trust and all our volunteers, fundraisers, staff and partners to achieve ever greater impact. Having seen first-hand how valuable the Charity has been over recent years in helping to improve health and healthcare, I am really looking forward to joining the team.”
Ian Lush OBE, Chief Executive of the Charity, said: “I am thrilled that Andreas will be our next Chair. His experience in both not-for-profit and global leadership roles will be invaluable as we work to shape our future for the coming years. We are also indebted to David for all that he has done to help us grow and succeed over the past eight years.”
Professor Tim Orchard, Chief Executive of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “The Charity is one our most important partners, catalysing and supporting a wide range of improvement and innovation for the benefit of our patients, local communities and staff. Andreas’s long track record as a Trust board member and trustee with other charities - ensuring not-for-profit organisations achieve their potential - combined with his own, extensive executive experience will help the Charity even more as we, and the wider NHS, navigate some of our biggest challenges and opportunities.”
