Bill Bailey to headline NHS Comedy Night
Bill Bailey to headline NHS Comedy Night
24 August 2023

All money raised will help us continue to support services across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust’s hospitals, and give back to the healthcare workers who work so tirelessly to care for us all.
We’re thrilled to announce that the night will be headlined by the multitalented Bill Bailey and hosted by Tez Ilyas, with four other fantastic comedians taking to the stage, all with their personal connection to our hospitals and the NHS.
Find out more about the acts below:
Bill Bailey
Bill Bailey is not only a comedian, but a musician, writer, author, director, presenter and the 2020 winner of Strictly Come Dancing.
When he’s not touring, he’s appeared on our TVs in Bill Bailey’s Jungle Hero and Bill Bailey’s Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra as well as being a guest on QI and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
His comedy is intelligent and lighthearted, exploring the absurdity of life through stories, poetry and instruments.
Tez Ilyas
Tez is known for his smash hit show Made in Britain, which had every single performance sell out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and his appearance in shows including BBC Three’s Man Like Mobeen.
He achieved critical acclaim and success following his debut standup show TEZ talks, which focused on misconceptions about Islam, and Islamophobia, which was subsequently adapted into a radio show for BBC Radio 4.
Ola Labib
With stories inspired by her strict Islamic and traditional African upbringing, and her NHS career as a pharmacist, Ola’s edgy comedy is not afraid to tackle stereotypes about growing up in Britain as a Black, Muslim, Sudanese woman.
At the start of 2022, she was cited by I Talk Telly as being one of the top 22 TV stars to keep an eye on and with her fast growing reputation, she really is a star on the rise.
Ed Patrick
Ed Patrick is a comedian, author and NHS anaesthetist. He injects plenty of laughter into his sets, and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, with a set based on his critically acclaimed debut book “Catch Your Breath” which was published by Hachette in 2021.
Ed also hosts the "Comedians' Surgery" podcast where he speaks to guests including Joe Lycett, Rose Matafeo and Reginald D Hunter about their health stories and experiences.
He also created and presented "Infectious Personalities" broadcast on BBC Radio 2 with guests Charlie Brooker and Sindhu Vee. Ed has written and performed on Channel 4, BBC Radio 4, and BBC Radio Scotland.
Stefania Licari
Stefania Licari is an NHS intensive care doctor, actor, comedian and writer best known for her hit stand-up show MEDICO, told through the eyes of her alter-ego Dr Anna LaRosa, who also appeared in her award-winning online series MY DOCTOR’S ADVICE.
Stefania’s shows blend together physical gags, jokes and stories from the NHS frontline that showcase her own experience of being an Italian doctor in the UK.
Benji Waterstones
Benji Waterstones is an NHS psychiatrist, award-winning comedian and writer. He’s written for The Guardian and The Independent to raise awareness about mental health, and his first book ’You Don’t Have To Be Mad To Work Here’ is being published by Penguin in Spring 2024 and adapted for television by BBC Studios-owned House Productions.
His shows strike a balance between humour and compassion, focusing on the stories of the patients he meets and his own mental wellbeing. He cleverly creates lots of opportunities for laughter whilst also encouraging the audience to think about the challenges of mental health care.
