Volunteer Interview and DBS check

Once we have received your volunteer application, we will arrange a time for you to come in for an informal interview. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about volunteering with us and the ways we will support you.

We will be looking to see that you are friendly, caring and passionate about supporting patients, staff and our hospitals. We will explore with you the volunteering role you have applied for and whether this is the best match.

If your interview is successful, we will then support you to complete a DBS check which stands for the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Please review the guidance to ensure that you are able to bring with you the correct information and documents for your DBS check.

Any DBS questions? please visit our FAQs on DBS.

We are here to help if you have any further questions or would like to check with us that you are bringing the right information and documents, please do reach out to us.

Why do I need a DBS check?

All our volunteering roles require a DBS check, as part of our commitment to safer recruitment.

We will complete a new DBS application:

  • For all volunteering roles, we do not accept existing DBS certificates or the DBS update service
  • Every 3 years
  • If a volunteer has not volunteered with us in the past 6 months
  • If you change a role that requires a different level of DBS check

You may need a new DBS check if you apply for an additional or change of volunteer role with us.

How do I complete my DBS check?

We will arrange a time for you to come in and meet us, during this meeting we will support you to complete the DBS check application, you will need to provide some information about yourself and bring with you some documents.

Please review the guidance to ensure that you are able to bring with you the correct information and documents.

We are here to help if you have any questions or would like to check with us that you are bringing the right information and documents, please do reach out to us.

What happens next?

After your DBS check application has been submitted, we will receive a notification when your DBS check has been completed, and you should receive your DBS certificate in the post around 7 days later. We will only need to see your DBS certificate when there is information shown (please see the FAQs on DBS for more information).
