Support our Time For Play Appeal and give a child the gift of play
You can give the gift of play to a child in hospital by supporting our Time For Play Appeal.

This winter we’re raising funds to create an exceptional play space for seriously ill children being looked after at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Sadly, many children will spend the winter months in hospital this year. But at times of great distress and uncertainty, the power of play can make the world of difference.

Our Time For Play Appeal will raise funds to transform the existing playroom at St Mary’s Hospital into a vibrant and engaging space for play.

"A child who’s had preparation for an operation with the play team tends to be a lot less scared, more in control, and they feel heard.”

Children of all ages – from tiny tots to teenagers – will have the freedom to explore a wide range of age-appropriate games and sensory resources in a truly multi-functional space.

Once complete, the new play space will also be used by specialist staff to deliver tailored arts, music and physical therapy activities – crucial support that can significantly enhance a child’s recovery.

Hannah Deller, Matron for Children's Services and Ward Manager at the Trust, said: “The difference between carrying out a procedure on a child who hasn’t had play therapy input, and a child who has, is black and white.

“A child who’s had preparation for an operation with the play team tends to be a lot less scared, more in control, and they feel heard.”
