£600k funding boost to support innovation at hospitals

We’ve awarded more than £645,000 to support a wide range of projects that will help our hospitals provide the best possible care for patients.

The grants were awarded following the first round of our new funding programme, Innovate at Imperial.

The programme is designed to enable teams to develop, test and evaluate a project, and the funding can be used to explore new approaches to any aspect of patient care.

Among the successful proposals are projects to:

·        improve outpatient transplant care

·        help diabetes patients self-manage their condition

·        reduce psychological problems among children admitted to paediatric intensive care.

Francesca Ferro, Head of Grants at Imperial Health Charity, said: “Innovate at Imperial is a unique opportunity for staff to challenge traditional ways of working and develop new approaches to improving patient care.

“We were really impressed by the quality of the applications we received for our first funding round and we’re looking forward to seeing these plans put into action.”

Following a call for applications last year, we’ve awarded 12 grants of up to £85,000 to support a wide range of projects across the Trust. In total, we’ve committed almost £650,000 to give these innovative ideas the green light.

We’ve also launched a second funding round to give more hospital teams the chance to apply for funding.

How to apply

If you’re a permanent member of staff at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, you can apply for funding through Innovate at Imperial.

The programme is open to all staff but is best suited to applications from teams rather than individuals.

Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate that their project has the potential to accelerate progress, strengthen hospital processes, improve safety or support staff health and wellbeing.
